Join us for a live web-cast on DocumentBuilder 2.0 on September 7 at 8:00 AM PST

Bob McClellan and I will be hosting a live web-cast on Sept 7 at 8:00 AM PST.  We’ll be demoing some new functionality in DocumentBuilder 2.0, discussing the future of PowerTools for Open XML and DocumentBuilder, and taking questions and comments about it.  We’d love to hear your feedback, as well as ideas for enhancements. And if we run out of stuff to talk about with DocumentBuilder, any Open XML topic or question is fair game.

So if, like me, you can’t think of anything more fun than getting online with some other geeks, and discussing interrelated markup, document composability, and the intricacies of Open XML WordprocessingML, please join us!

You can find all the details in this blog post at OpenXMLDeveloper.org.

Unfortunately I am unable to join this webcast as I have prior arrangements but could you let me know if this will be recorded and distributed at a later date?

    Thanks.

    Hi Phil,

We tried to record, but were not able to. I have recorded a screen-cast with the most important info:

The rest of the session was ruminating on various forms of transforms, specifically to and from flat forms. I don’t have anything definite from that part of the session, but plan on putting something together as soon as I am able.

    Hi Eric,
I’m struggling for a couple of weeks already with merging multiple document in one. First I used your DocumentBuilder with a simple template I created and it all works just fine.
So let me explain: what I want to do is to create a WordprocessingML document with some information from a SharePoint 2010 list. For this purpose I created a template with content controls, where I push the data in. In order to keep the formatting of the data in the rich-text text columns in SharePoint, I’m using the AltChunk approach. So at the and I have a separate file for every SharePoint list element.
    And here come my problems:
    1. DocumentBuilder doesn’t support merging WordprocessingML document, which contain AltChunks.
    2. I tried merging all the documents again using altChunks, but when I have template with different headers and footers on every page, the result is discouraging.

Do you have a tip what I could do? Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks in advance

One approach is to expand the altChunk using Word Automation Services, and then use DocumentBuilder. I don’t have a magic bullet. What you are trying to do is a difficult thing to do with current technology.

    Hi Eric,

We are building a data bound word template module. In which we use content controls where user can edit data which is then stored in the data store/XML. The word templates have tables, the user can edit the content within the cell of the table. For this we have added content controls with each cell of a row. Now when the user adds a new row – either by tabbing out of the bottom-right (last) cell OR clicking enter outside the table OR by right clicking the table and inserting rows, the content controls should also get copied onto the next row. We are not able to hook our code into the event that creates the row for the table. We are using a Word Addin for document processing. Please let me know how can the Addin get an event when a user adds a row to a table in a Word 2007/2010 document.

    Thanks,

    Hi Balaji,

Unfortunately, I’ve done a bit of managed add-in coding, but unfortunately don’t know the answer to your question. Have you submitted your question to one of the forums on MSDN? If you look at this page, you will find a forum appropriate for your question.

Hi Eric, Thanks for the great post, I am using document builder to create new document, the problem I encountered is once the new document created from old one, all the bullet list symbols disappeared in the new document, the list still keeps the indent and other format, but symbols, would you mind to share some your thoughts.

    Thanks!
