Welcome, Open-Xml-PowerTools Users

Welcome, Open-Xml-PowerTools users. As you may have learned from the repo at OfficeDev/Open-Xml-PowerTools, Microsoft is going to archive that repo, and will not be maintaining that repo in the future. The good folks at
Microsoft asked if I would maintain this repo going forward, and I said “yes, absolutely”.

At this moment, the github.com/EricWhiteDev/Open-Xml-PowerTools repo is an exact clone of the github/OfficeDev/Open-Xml-PowerTools repo, but that is going to change in the near future.

I plan to:

  • Merge vNext into Master
  • Make significant enhancements to vNext

For those of you awaiting the enhancements to DocumentAssembler, I am nearly done with them, and expect to post an updated, refactored version shortly.

Unfortunately, this development came right as I am starting a 10-day vacation, so will need to balance making the necessary enhancements with my other vacation activities! But stay tuned, I expect to make progress in the next couple of days.

Warm Regards,

Eric White

    Hi Eric,
Great to see the update. I’m leaving message here because I didn’t find other places to discuss the question (sorry), here’s Yuxiang from PowerPoint Online team, and fixing one issue about invalid hyperlink. Found your article of http://www.ericwhite.com/blog/handling-invalid-hyperlinks-openxmlpackageexception-in-the-open-xml-sdk/
which is related to this issue, and would like to discuss with you expert to find any solutions. Do you mind to leave me an email address for further discussion? Really appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Yuxiang

    Eric:

Thanks for taking on the responsibility for this site.

I think like many others, I have been looking for a source for downloading the Custom UI Editor, which led me to the previous website. I was able to get it from Ron de Bruin’s site (http://www.rondebruin.nl/win/s2/win001.htm) for developing an Excel financial modeling tool for the bank. However, I am running into IT Security because there is a EULA in that installer that says that this is a Microsoft product, and the terms prohibit its use in a production environment even though the EULA refers to the version “expected to stop running 04/30/2006”! Is there a statement that you know of from Microsoft that states that it has stopped supporting the Custom UI Editor? That would be a great argument that we can ignore this EULA.

While we are at it, do you know of any good alternatives for Custom UI Editor for editing the XML code in Excel and Word ribbons?

Hope you had a good vacation.

    Many thanks

As far as I can see, certain significant enhancements were made. I expect there should be progress in the nearest future.

Started to use this tool. Also found “ClosedXML”. Can you clarify or possibly discuss “CloseXML and OpenXML and POwerTools” library? I think (we?) should find a way to unite these tools. Too confusing. At the end used “ClosedXML” to created a Excel sheet in C#.

ERIC. Can yo comment on this subject? Should these libraries be united?

Hello, Eric… just found out about Open XML and you.
Im struggling to find out how to parse an PPT file… saw your sample on building presentations.
But what about parsing presentations? Is there anything available? If not, could you share some tips on how can I start?
    Regards

Having to support a workflow like this: convert DOCX to HTML -> edit/change HTML -> save back HTML to DOCX I’m wondering if make sense to save Headers and Footers before the workflow and reapply them after the workflow as well.

Any additional concern more the difficulty of that?
