I am looking for a link to a document by Eric White titled something like “OpenXML 2.0”. I printed it a couple years ago and have lost it and need access to it again.

Any help in locating that (or a similar API document) would be helpful.

    Hi Gary,

Unfortunately, I don’t know what particular document you are referring to. Over the years, I have written over 1000 articles and blog posts on Open XML, and recorded more than 200 videos. If you can give me an idea of the problem you are trying to solve, I can probably recommend some content to help you out.

Have you taken a look at the various screen-cast series on Open XML? Links are in the sidebar on this blog.

    Cheers, Eric

I found the link to the 2.5SDK but am struggling to find out what is ‘current’ with XML mapping and Microsoft Word in calendar year 2017. There is a lot of coverage of ‘old’ stuff re Word 2010 and tools when there was some excitement around then a little resurgence with the advent of Word 2013 and XML content control improvements. Little since.

I am in the U.K construction industry. On a project we produce high level work package documents and each may contain dozens of statements on specific risks. I am looking to tag these risks via XML so that we could check how child documents cover off groups of risk. Say high level document has risks A,B,C,D. Low level(1) refers to A,C, Low level(2) refers B,D.

I was hoping to put something together with Word/2016 and XML and learn the VBA that goes with it. I need to find out if this objective is realistic so I can I get away with just out of the box Word.

    Should I go for it?

The Open XML SDK provides tools for working with Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. It supports scenarios such as:

High-performance generation of word-processing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
Populating content in Word files from an XML data source.
Splitting up (shredding) a Word or PowerPoint file into multiple files, and combining multiple Word/PowerPoint files into a single file.
Extraction of data from Excel documents.
Searching and replacing content in Word/PowerPoint using regular expressions.
Updating cached data and embedded spreadsheets for charts in Word/PowerPoint.
Document modification, such as adding, updating, and removing content and metadata.
